LTL (Less Than Truck Load) is transport where one truck carries the cargo of two or more shippers. At the border and on delivery each cargo travels with its own documents.
When groupage is beneficial
Groupage is chosen when the volume is small and there is no point taking a whole truck.

How the cost of groupage is calculated
In LTL you pay for the space actually occupied: the number of pallet spaces, the linear metres of the truck bed (LDM) or the volumetric weight — whichever is greater. Packaging and marking
Groupage cargo goes through terminal handling at the warehouse and travels next to other shipments, so reliable packaging and clear marking of the packages matter. Timelines of groupage transport
Groupage cargo runs on the schedule of the trip and factoring in consolidation time, so it is usually a little longer than a full truck. In return it is cheaper and suits regular deliveries where there is some time to spare.
